Picking Campaign Surrogates the Scott Brown Way

If you were a  candidate for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts and polls showed that, among women, you were trailing by 15 points and you wanted to make up some of that ground by presenting women as campaign surrogates to attack your challenger, would you choose as a surrogate the perennial lead sponsor of the most restrictive anti-abortion bill filed in the state legislature, which would make it illegal for a woman to have an abortion until she has been given “a description of the probable anatomical and physiological characteristics of the unborn child” and “statements that, under the law of the commonwealth, a pregnant woman has the right upon her request to view a live ultrasound and hear the heartbeat of her unborn child before an abortion.”

If you were Scott Brown, yes, you would.
