(A post in honor of the recent decision by the First Circuit Court of Appeals striking down the federal Defense of Marriage Act.)
Six years ago today, his eye on a 2008 Presidential run, Romney sent a letter to Congress supporting a federal constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. He posed this Zen Koan of sorts.
“Once a society establishes that it is legally indifferent between traditional marriage and same-sex marriage, how can one preserve any practice which favors the union of a man and a woman?”
So much to think about. Thank you, Governor.
PS – the amendment did not come close to the two-thirds needed for passage (236 yeas to 187 nays in the House and 49 to 48 in the Senate.
